Refrigerator Repairs, How they Work
Home and Office Refrigerator appliances run continuously, day & night, keeping your precious foods cold & ready to enjoy. Consider how hard Refrigerators work, when your Refrigerator does break down or stops working, you face all of the expense of replacing any lost food. We know about repairing your refrigerator and freezer. Most repairs are actually quite easy, requiring only a little work on the appliance, Here's some basic information for you. Refrigerators or freezers work with two basic components: "the condenser coil" & "the evaporator coil" that a coolant is circulated through these coils as a liquid by a compressor & a motor. The refrigerant coolant is cooled by the condenser and it flows through pipe to the evaporator, then the air in the appliance is cooled by contact with the coolant-filled coil pipes. A Condenser of a refrigerator & freezer is the coil located on the outside of the unit & the evaporator is the coil on the inside of the appliance. Coolant is then circulated through the system by a compressor.
Most refrigerators and freezers are(or should be)frost-free. These types of appliances, a heater turned on by a timer to melt the frost inside automatically and is melted by the heater sometimes in different locations in the appliance. Once the frost has melted, the thermostat switches to a cooling cycle automatically maintaining standard freezing temperatures due to this automatic process frost does not build up inside, if your having problems call us and we'll send a service repairman out right away.
Your Appliance compressor system forces coolant through a coil system and is driven by a capacitor motor we can repair. Basic parts for the cooling and defrosting systems have switches, heaters, condensers, thermostats, and fans. We test and replace many of these refrigerator parts. Many repairs are best left to a professional repair person.
link reference from wikipedia:
A refrigerator, fridge or Icebox is a cooling apparatus. This appliance consists of a thermally insulated compartment and a electronic, mechanical or chemical heat pump that transfers heat inside the fridge to the external environment of the fridge.
Cool food storage technique is popular in developed countries, decreasing the reproduction rates of bacteria, reducing spoilage of foodstuffs.
Refrigerators maintain temperatures a few degrees above the freezing point at a temperature range of "3 to 5 °C" or "37 to 41 °F".
Doemestic fridge and freezer units of many other names, are much safer than Commercial units used 40 years prior to the household models of today. They used toxic gas systems, making them unsafe for home use. Household refrigerators were introduced in 1915 were expensive and gained a wider audience during the 1930s as prices Lowered. Synthetic refrigerant Freon & R-12 were introduced to make Refrigerators safer.
Styles of refrigerators
Most households use the freezer on top and refrigerator on bottom style, which has been the basic style since the 1940s. Side by side style – introduced by Amana in 1949 but not popular until 1965. Top refrigerator/bottom freezer style – mid-1950s – present and French door style – late 1990s-present. Two French doors for refrigerator and bottom freezer.
Early-1950s, most refrigerators were white, Mid-1950s designers and manufacturers started making colored Refrigerators and the late-1950s and early 1960s manufacturers used colors like turquoise and pink, vary popular with chrome plating available on different brand names. The 1970s brought in Harvest tones of Gold & Avocado. By the 1980s black viewed as luxurious. The late 1990s saw the age of stainless steel finally by 2009, one manufacturer made a multi-color design.
Before the refrigerator, icehouses were used for cool storage for most of the year. Icehouses near lakes & packed with snow/ice in winter, were once very common.
The physicist and chemist Ibn Sina invented the first refrigerated coil in the 11th century.
Newer refrigerators have:
A power failure warning, alerting the user by flashing a temperature display. The maximum temperature reached during the power failure may be displayed, along with information on whether the frozen food has defrosted or may contain harmful bacteria.
Chilled water and ice available from an in-door station, so that the door need not be opened;
Water and Ice Dispensing became available in the 1970s. Also some refrigerators have icemakers built-in so the user doesn't have to use ice trays. Some refrigerators have water chillers and water filtration systems.
Cabinet rollers that allow the refrigerator to be easily rolled around for easier cleaning
Adjustable shelves and trays
Status Indicator to notify the user when it is time to change the water filter
An in-door ice caddy, which relocates the ice-maker storage to the freezer door and saves approximately 60 litres (2 cu ft) of usable freezer space. It is also removable, and helps to prevent ice-maker clogging
cooling zone in the refrigerator door shelves. Air from the freezer section is diverted to the refrigerator door, to cool milk or juice stored in the door shelf.
Early freezer units accumulated ice crystals around the freezing units. This was a result of humidity introduced into the units when the doors to the freezer were opened condensing on the cold parts, then freezing.
Manual Defrost units are still available. Advances in automatic defrosting eliminating the thawing task were introduced in the 1950s, but are not universal, due to energy performance and cost.
Early freezer compartments located within the larger refrigerator, and accessed by opening the refrigerator door
Later advances included automatic ice units and self compartmentalized freezing units.
An increasingly important environmental concern is the disposal of old refrigerators – initially because of the freon coolant damaging the ozone layer, let us help you maintain these units.
Disposal of discarded refrigerators is regulated, often mandating the removal of doors; children playing hide-and-seek have been asphyxiated while hiding inside discarded refrigerators, particularly older models with latching doors. Since August 2, 1956, under U.S. federal law, refrigerator doors are no longer permitted to lock from the inside.
